Stultum
A simple bullet hell(?) prototype uploaded for the Brackeys 2026.1 game jam.
You are a grey, emotionless capsule. Harvest as many circles as you can.
You can click to shoot the enemies, and you can right click to parry or block. Pressing shift or space will make you dash.
The farther you get, the stronger the enemies are.
(Also theres a cool QOL feature where the bullets turn red the closer they are to you so you can see if one is nearby in your peripheral vision easier)
This is super unpolished and very rushed because I have school, so theres like trillions of things missing from this that I could've added if I didn't have school but it's still playable at least.
This was also a big challenge for me because this was my:
- First ever actual "playable" game basically
- First time in my life that I actually tried to learn art seriously, although I can't learn that fast so the art is incredibly lackluster but thankfully so far I barely had to make any sprites
- All sound effects in the game come from sounds I created in real life, except 3, which were made in a DAW using random plugins. (First time I've ever done anything like this, I've never made my own sounds for anything before)
- I barely know coding and I got a lot of code from tutorials, I'm actively trying to learn actual coding though (GDScript)
- Yeah it was just hard to make or something i dont remember anything else
Please give me feedback, I'm new to like everything about game development except music and I barely know anything about music either, I dont even know how to use keys or scales, the most advanced thing I know is using an equalizer but I don't even know how to use it "correctly" I just adjust it until it sounds good. Everything else like sound effect design and art and coding and game development I have embarrassingly primitive knowledge on

This was actually really enjoyable to play!
The sound design was what stood out to me, I loved the music track so much. The gameplay leveling up is a bit lacking and visually too, but this was an addictive game for me! I enjoyed killing the circles. :)
